Posted by: Unknown on Monday, January 9, 2017

On January 9th, 2017, fifth graders from MCI’s Project Promise after-school program had the opportunity to participate in a WITS lab at a Whole Foods Market in Coral Gables. This opportunity was made possible by Whole Foods Market, who selected WITS as the recipient of their 5% Give Back Day campaign. Students participated in an interactive healthy cooking lesson taught by local celebrity chef Michael Schwartz.

Wellness in the Schools (WITS) works with schools to create healthier environments for children to learn and grow. WITS currently operates in two schools in South Florida, one of them being Charles R. Drew K-8 center, where program staff work with schools to promote increased cooking from scratch and healthier food options. In addition, WITS labs are healthy cooking workshops provided to all students four times per year. MCI has created a partnership with WITS to increase the impact both organizations are having on improving the health & wellness of Charles R. Drew students and their families.
