Why Miami Children’s Initiative?

Miami Children's Initiative actually chose me and I'm glad they did. MCI has a mission and purpose that falls in line with my vision of a better world; a world where community, self-education, curiosity, success and education are experienced all throughout our communities of color. At MCI we don't just sit around and expect the vicious cycles of poverty and violence will one day end, we put words into action to stop it everyday through our daily interactions with  our Liberty City community.

What’s the best part of your work?

The best part of my work is letting our community know that they matter and that they are change they've been waiting for. Our community is full of Kings and Queens we just have to continue to remind ourselves of it.

What’s your most memorable MCI experience?

My most memorable experience happens everyday when I encounter MCI children running towards me with smiles on their faces to remind me that we have a promising future and change will happen because, in the eyes of children, anything is possible.

How has MCI impacted your life?

MCI helped me realize the importance and necessity of the Cradle-to-Career/Cradle-to-College pipeline that counters the School-to-Prison pipeline. This revolutionary counter measure will defy the stereotypes of our Liberty City community to make success and opportunities the norm.
