Why Miami Children’s Initiative?
Miami Children's Initiative works hand and hand with my belief system. Which is to want for my sister and brother, what I want for myself. To break the chains of poverty and to remove all excuses to why we can not succeed in living a respectable and health lifestyle for ourselves and for our children.
What’s the best part of your work?
The smiles of accomplishment. Being there when self-doubt starts to dissipates and hope appears. To see a child caught in the grip of property and despair graduate from high school and believe for the the first time that collage is an attainable goal. When a shy child with a little encouragement sings in front of a large audience and receives a standing ovation. When a resident gets a job opportunity that allows them support themselves, their family and their children. And when their first order of business is to comes into the Community Space to show off their new uniform. It just does not get any better than that!
What’s your most memorable MCI experience?
Assisting in creating a Memorial Garden to remember the residents who lost their life from senseless gun violence or the consequences of living in an impoverish and hopeless environment. I had the honor to read out over 20 names of those who were no longer with us and to assure their families that they had not been forgotten. I Joined the 10,000 Fearless and vowed to myself to do all that I could to stop the senseless violence in our communities.
How has MCI impacted your life?
Miami Children's Initiative has impacted my life by giving to me a formula by which lives can be forever changed. With Hope, Hard Work, Passion, Data, Visionaries (Partnering with those who want to see poverty obliterated.) Then add equal amounts of "WHATEVER IT TAKES" and "GET IT DONE!" With a bit of "STICK-TO-IT IVENESS" lives can and will be Transformed!
